10 days have passed since I arrived in Jakarta.

Ten days have passed since we left Japan. Last week, we discussed the project details at the Ministry of Public Works in Jakarta, and on the 7th, we held a hybrid presentation and discussion with relevant organizations. More than 50 participants held final discussions on the selection of the final candidate site for this project. This week or early next week, the Director-General, Vice-Minister, and Minister will decide on three or four areas for this project. Each area will span a wide area, from 50 to 120 km, and a coastal disaster prevention plan will be formulated for each area. The plan will be finalized not only from a technical perspective, but also through stakeholder meetings and consultations with relevant organizations. Furthermore, while coastal conservation has previously only considered protection, the plan will now consider a balance between environmental and utilization aspects.

From the 8th

We have left Jakarta to conduct a field survey. We conducted a three-day field survey in Indramayu, located east of Jakarta, about a three-hour drive. In addition to conducting a field survey to grasp the actual local situation, we are also using drones to grasp the situation in a wider area and conducting on-site interviews. We began surveying Pekalongan yesterday and are moving to Semarang today. Tomorrow, we will hold discussions with relevant agencies in Semarang, after which we will survey Rembang and Tuban, which are a further four hours away by car. Currently, we are conducting the survey with eight people, including Japanese and local staff. Four Japanese will join us in Semarang today, making the survey a team of 12 people.

I plan to return to Jakarta on October 16th. Since arriving, I have been doing field surveys and traveling hundreds of kilometers every day without a break, which will be quite tough, but I will do my best.
