Progress and evaluation of Akiya coastal gravel nourishment

At Akiya Coast, located on the Sagami Bay coast of the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa Prefecture, coastal erosion became apparent in the 1990s, so beach nourishment was carried out over an eight-year period beginning in 2007, using 92,600 m3 of gravel with a median particle size of 15 mm. The choice of the gravel nourishment method was based on four years of discussions at a local consensus-building meeting.
