3D rendering of the cherry blossom trees in Yonomori, Tomioka Town (MMS, UAV and 3D laser scanning)

Since April, we have been working on creating 3D data of the cherry blossom trees at Yonomori in Tomioka Town. When the cherry blossom tunnel is in full bloom, we are using a combination of MMS (a mobile 3D observation device), 3D laser scanning, and UAVs (drones) to conduct 3D observations of the cherry blossom trees from all angles. As this is a first for Japan and observations are conducted during a limited period when the trees are in full bloom, we faced various challenges, but we were able to devise unique methods and obtain data while working. In the future, we will process the acquired 3D data on a high-speed workstation and create a 3D archive of the cherry blossom trees. The archive will be available for viewing by the public around July.
