Reunited with Mayor Elvis of Machu Picchu Village for the first time in about two years
The field survey in July focused on detailed 3D measurements of the Machu Picchu ruins and demonstrating the discovery of ruins hidden in the forest surrounding the ruins.
In addition to these surveys, the October survey will involve 3D measurements of the entire Machu Picchu village to create basic data for disaster prevention planning. The urban area of Machu Picchu village is very small, measuring approximately 300m square. It is surrounded by mountains that drop almost vertically. In addition to many residents, this small village also attracts tourists from all over the world. During heavy rains, the village faces various challenges in terms of disaster prevention, such as damage to infrastructure and people caused by mudslides, and rockfalls from the steep mountains.

I would like to continue to work hard to deepen the bond between Otama Village and Machu Picchu Village and to give back to Otama Village.

At the Machu Picchu Village Hall, we took a commemorative photo with the first village mayor (Nouchi Yokichi, from Otama Village).
