Letter of appreciation from Machu Picchu Village

On May 13th, we exchanged opinions with staff in Machu Picchu Village regarding the JICA survey and conducted an on-site survey of the disaster site. Machu Picchu Village suffered extensive damage from flooding in January of this year. In the afternoon, we paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Darwin, where we exchanged opinions for approximately two hours. The mayor expressed his hope that we could use the experience and technology we have gained from the recovery and reconstruction efforts in Fukushima following the Great East Japan Earthquake to improve disaster prevention, heritage preservation, tourism, and other areas. He also presented us with a letter of appreciation, expressing his high expectations for our technology. We are extremely pleased that, following the conclusion of the friendship city agreement between Otama Village and Machu Picchu Village, we have been given the opportunity to play even a small role in Machu Picchu Village's future through JICA. We intend to cherish this initiative as a way of giving back to the people of Tomioka Town for the tremendous support they have provided Otama Village since the earthquake.
