Life in Tuvalu.

Tuvalu, in a word, is inconvenient. Perhaps that's because I'm used to life in Japan. Food, water, insects, extreme heat, sudden downpours, and communication. The first five can be solved with some ingenuity. But the last one, communication, is completely out of my control. Just when you think you've connected to the internet, it only lasts for a few tens of seconds. And even when you do have a stable connection for a few minutes, it takes several minutes to send or receive a 1MB file. The internet environment is the only thing that causes me some stress.
But when I think back to 20 years ago, when I went on my first overseas business trip, there was no internet and I wasn't even sure if I could get a fax. Phone calls cost 500 yen per minute and there was a stopwatch in front of me, which made me panic. Compared to then, I guess it's better now. It's an environment where you think about how to survive, take action, and then feel the effects later. This may be valuable in its own way.
