Rice planting in Tomioka Town
The first step toward recovery. Today, a rice cultivation demonstration project was held in Tomioka Town, and four people from our company, including myself, participated. In addition to 14 members of the Hometown Production Association, approximately 50 people participated, including representatives from the prefecture, town, agricultural cooperative, agricultural equipment manufacturer, NPO, Waseda University, and the media, including newspapers and television. Before the earthquake, Tomioka Town cultivated rice on 1,000 hectares, but this demonstration project reduced it to 2 hectares. While this is a very small area compared to the total area, I believe it marks a major first step. I would like to express my respect for the passion and hard work of the association members who have been preparing since the earthquake until today. In May, before the earthquake, my whole family and I went rice planting together. It was my first time planting rice in Tomioka in four years. It was nostalgic and truly satisfying.
