Community-led urban development workshop at Tomioka Head Office
On December 4th, the third resident-led town planning workshop was held in the Tomioka headquarters conference room. The mayors and deputy mayors of the four administrative districts in the tsunami-affected area, as well as members of the Tomioka Wine Grape Cultivation Club, which is conducting experimental wine grape cultivation in the coastal area, discussed land use in the tsunami-affected area and future tourism resources. The results of the workshop were compiled into a town opinion paper, which will be submitted to Tomioka Town and Fukushima Prefecture by the end of the year. It is almost unprecedented in this region for residents to voluntarily discuss the town's future. The key to town planning in this region may be to integrate the wishes of residents with government policies. This workshop was covered by NHK, Fukushima Chuo Television, and the Yomiuri Shimbun.
