I was invited to a tour report session for the unveiling ceremony of the Nouchi Yokichi commemorative plaque in Otama Village.

On Saturday, November 29th, we were invited to a tour report session for the unveiling ceremony of the Nouchi Yokichi Commemorative Plaque in Otama Village.

In honor of the achievements of Yokichi Nouchi (the first mayor of Machu Picchu), who connected the villages of Otama and Machu Picchu over 100 years ago, a delegation from Otama, led by the mayor, visited Machu Picchu in October of this year and installed a commemorative plaque in the village. Our research team, which has been conducting a month-long survey of the Machu Picchu ruins conservation project, was also invited to attend the unveiling ceremony.

During the presentation, we introduced the details of our research at Machu Picchu and some of the results. It was a great honor to be able to make this presentation in front of so many Otama Village residents. Furthermore, the origins of our research at Machu Picchu were the acceptance of many Tomioka Town residents immediately after the earthquake disaster. Ten years have passed since the initial concept, and we are now able to begin full-scale research and report on the project in Otama Village and Machu Picchu Village. It is truly moving.

This Machu Picchu preservation project has taught us that persistence with conviction can open up new paths. We hope to continue to apply this lesson to this project and to the reconstruction and revitalization of the region. We are grateful for the support we have received from so many people up to now.
