The final voyage to Java, Indonesia

Narita Airport on a Saturday morning.
I will be on a business trip to Java, Indonesia for about two weeks.

For the past two and a half years, I have participated in a coastal disaster prevention plan formulation survey for the northern part of Java Island (approximately 1,600 km) amid the many restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This project has resulted in nearly 10 trips to the country, including Jakarta and then Japan after returning home, where I conducted the survey while living in isolation. It was extremely nerve-wracking, and it was the first time in Indonesia that a coastal disaster prevention plan was being seriously considered. It was a survey that involved a wide range of topics, including guidelines, coastal conservation plans, and legal systems related to Indonesia's coasts, so I felt a great sense of responsibility.

This will be my last trip, but I hope that what I have considered so far will raise awareness of disaster prevention in Indonesia, spread awareness of the importance of coastal use and the environment, and contribute in some way to the country's development.
