Coastal survey in Bali
Yesterday (February 19th), we finished our three-day research in Bali and returned safely to Jakarta.
In Bali, we visited the Bali Coastal Conservation Project (BBCP) Phase 1 (BBCP-1), which was implemented from 1998 to 2009, and BBCP-2, which is currently underway. BBCP-1 is a project that I was involved in as Futaba for a total of four and a half years while working for Nippon Koei.
BBCP-2 is currently in the bidding and partial construction stages of the project, but our company was involved in the feasibility study from 2011 to 2013. At that time, Izumi-san and I from our company also participated, and Kurata-san was an employee of Kokusai Kogyo. It was in Bali at that time that I first met Kurata-san, so it is very moving to be going to Bali together now as an employee of our company.
In this survey, BBCP-1 will cover the effects of beach nourishment, utilization after implementation of the project, economic effects, and the status of maintenance and management, while BBCP-2 will cover countermeasures for coastal erosion, procurement of beach nourishment materials, environmental considerations, and post-implementation economic effects, and will consider how these will be reflected in coastal conservation in northern Java.
Although we had limited time, we were able to obtain very useful information.
We would like to utilize this not only on Java Island, but also in the coastal areas of Fukushima (especially the area around Tomioka Fishing Port).
I will be working in Jakarta until tomorrow and will return to Japan on the 22nd.
