President gives speech at the FY2018 Regional Information Exchange Event (November 15th)

On November 15th, I gave a lecture at the FY2018 Regional Information Exchange Meeting hosted by the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
At the regional information exchange meeting, leaders from nuclear power plant host regions in Aomori, Niigata, Fukui, and Kagoshima gathered in Koriyama City, and I gave a speech for about an hour and a half about the current situation, challenges, and future of the region. Going forward, wide-area cooperation among regions with nuclear power plants will be necessary, and this cooperation will lead the world.
I'm not sure how well my words were conveyed, but each region will eventually have to decommission its reactors and develop new ways of community development, which is precisely why the actions and experiences of Fukushima, which is at the forefront of this effort, are so important. Fukushima must not only experience decommissioning and decontamination, but also a variety of other regional issues. This is why I think it is important from now on not only to look inward, but also to communicate with the outside world. I hope that Fukushima's experience will be of some use to Japanese and global society in 20 or 30 years' time.
