Cherry blossoms in the forest at night
The day before yesterday, I stayed in Tomioka. It was my first time seeing the cherry blossoms at night in my hometown of Tomioka in seven years. They were beautiful, as always. But standing under the cherry blossoms also made me feel a weight of responsibility.
Hantani is the creator of the cherry blossom avenue in Yonomori. At the time, only horse-drawn carriages could travel along the undeveloped Yonomori road, and with an eye to the future, he secured a road width that was considered unusual at the time and planted cherry trees along the road. At the time, few people understood Hantani's actions. However, now, about 100 years after planting the cherry trees, the cherry blossom avenue has become a famous spot known throughout the country. I believe that Hantani's vision for the future is essential for the region's future reconstruction and revitalization. It was also a time to reflect on the future under the cherry blossoms.
