We will begin joint research to promote urban reconstruction through digital transformation in the Yonomori district of Tomioka Town, Fukushima Prefecture.
Futaba Corporation (CEO: Hidefumi Endo), in collaboration with the International Research Institute of Disaster Science, Tohoku University (Director: Shinichi Kuriyama) and Oriental Consultants Co., Ltd. (President and CEO: Hidenori Nozaki), will begin research in February 2026 to promote urban reconstruction using digital transformation technology in the Yonomori district of Tomioka Town, Fukushima Prefecture.
The Yonomori district of Tomioka Town, Fukushima Prefecture, was designated a difficult-to-return area after the Great East Japan Earthquake, and although the evacuation order has now been lifted, progress has not been made in the return or relocation of residents.
This joint research project will promote urban reconstruction through industry-academia collaboration, utilizing DX technology and other technologies, with the aim of encouraging residents to return, move in, and settle in the Yonomori district, and revitalizing the region by acquiring and expanding relationships and the population that interacts with the area.
The joint research will last for three years until January 2029, and specific research content and project initiatives will be announced in future press releases.
